Shoppers 20X vs. 20,000 Bonus Points — Why $67 Is the Key Spending Threshold

Shoppers Drug Mart has two PC Optimum promotions worth comparing on October 30: a 20X points event and targeted offers awarding 20,000 or 30,000 bonus points.

Both can provide substantial value, but the better option depends on how much you spend.

How Much Is 20X Worth?

Shoppers Drug Mart normally awards 15 PC Optimum points per $1 spent on eligible purchases.

During a 20X event, that increases to 300 points per $1.

Since 10,000 PC Optimum points normally have a redemption value of $10, 20X represents approximately 30% back in points value.

For example:

Spend $60: Earn approximately 18,000 points.

Spend $80: Earn approximately 24,000 points.

Spend $100: Earn approximately 30,000 points.

Remember that points are earned separately and do not reduce the amount paid at checkout.

Fixed bonus-point offers are often more rewarding for smaller eligible purchases, while 20X becomes increasingly valuable as spending increases.

Why Is $66.67 the Break-Even Point?

Under 20X, eligible spending earns approximately 300 points per dollar.

To earn 20,000 points:

20,000 ÷ 300 = $66.67

Below this amount, the fixed 20,000-point offer generally provides more points.

Above this amount, 20X generally provides more points.

Actual points earned may vary slightly depending on eligible spending calculations and offer terms.

What About a 30,000-Point Offer?

Some PC Optimum members may receive a targeted offer awarding 30,000 points instead of 20,000.

At regular redemption value, 30,000 points are worth $30.

To earn the same amount through 20X, eligible spending would need to reach approximately $100.

Below $100, the fixed 30,000-point offer generally provides better value.

At $100, both are approximately equal.

Above $100, 20X generally becomes more rewarding.

However, the minimum spending requirement for the 30,000-point offer may differ, so shoppers should confirm eligibility first.

When Do These Promotions End?

20X PC Optimum Points: October 30 only, for eligible in-store purchases.

20,000 / 30,000 Bonus Points: Until Sunday, November 1.

Check your personal PC Optimum account for the exact spending threshold, eligible products and exclusions.

Do not assume these storewide offers can be combined.

Which Offer Should You Choose?

For eligible spending around $60, a 20,000-point offer is generally the better choice.

At $70 or more, 20X typically provides a higher points return.

If you have a 30,000-point offer, the important comparison point moves to approximately $100.

Ultimately, the best strategy is to choose the offer that provides the most value on products you already planned to purchase.
